The African Development Bank’s public-sector portfolio scored 98.8 out of 100 in the 2026 Aid Transparency Index, retaining first place for a third consecutive edition, the bank announced on 4 November.
Its statement on the London launch placed the portfolio first among 33 institutions assessed. The Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank’s International Development Association shared second place on 97.1.
The score was unchanged from 2024. The assessment concerns the disclosure of aid and development-finance information; it does not establish that a particular project has met its targets.
Publish What You Fund’s 2026 technical paper sets out 35 indicators covering organisational planning, finance, project information, connections between data and performance reporting. The process combines automated tests with manual checks of published documents and data.
The methodology largely follows the 2024 approach, but extends the period used to assess timely publication from 12 to 24 months. Performance indicators examine whether objectives, results, reviews and evaluations are disclosed.
The index’s funding model also changed this year. In its February explanation, Publish What You Fund said accredited participants receive engagement and training, while major bilateral donors outside that paid programme are scored using the same assessment method.
The bank said its MapAfrica portal covers about 6,000 projects at more than 18,500 locations, with project objectives, progress and supporting documents available to users.
