Egypt Unveils Ambitious AI Strategy

Egypt has officially launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, marking a significant step in the country’s journey to becoming a leading AI and technology hub in North Africa. The strategy, spearheaded by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, aligns with Egypt’s broader Vision 2030 development agenda, which focuses on digital transformation, economic diversification, and innovation-driven growth.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) oversees the strategy’s implementation, aiming to enhance AI governance, data infrastructure, and talent development. By investing in these key areas, Egypt is positioning itself to leverage artificial intelligence for national progress. This initiative builds on Egypt’s previous successes in AI education, research, and ethical guidelines, reinforcing the country’s role as a regional leader in technological advancement.

The AI Strategy 2025–2030 is structured around three core objectives: economic growth, workforce development, and ethical AI governance. The government has set an ambitious target to increase the ICT sector’s contribution to GDP from 5% in 2023 to 7.7% by 2030. Over 250 AI-focused startups are expected to emerge, boosting Egypt’s startup ecosystem and attracting both local and international investors. AI-driven automation is projected to enhance productivity in key industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and logistics, creating thousands of high-skilled jobs.

To support AI sector growth, Egypt is investing heavily in workforce training, with a goal of producing at least 30,000 AI professionals by 2030. Universities are expanding AI and machine learning curricula, with institutions such as Cairo University, Ain Shams University, and Alexandria University launching specialized AI degree programs. The Egyptian AI Center of Excellence, set to be established by 2026, will serve as a hub for research, training, and collaboration between academia and industry.

A national AI ethics framework will be developed to guide the responsible use of artificial intelligence, addressing bias, privacy, and security concerns. The government is actively working with international AI governance bodies, including the United Nations AI for Good initiative and the African Union’s AI working group, to ensure that Egypt’s AI policies align with global best practices. Regulatory frameworks will also be introduced to encourage responsible AI deployment in both the public and private sectors.

AI is already transforming key sectors in Egypt. In healthcare, artificial intelligence is being integrated into early disease detection, telemedicine, and hospital management systems, helping improve medical services, particularly in underserved rural areas. The finance and banking sectors are rapidly adopting AI-powered fraud detection, automated customer service bots, and predictive analytics to improve financial security and efficiency. Smart cities and infrastructure projects are implementing AI-powered traffic management and energy optimization systems, reducing congestion and enhancing electricity usage. In education, AI-enhanced adaptive learning platforms are being introduced to personalize learning experiences for students.

Egypt’s AI strategy not only strengthens its regional leadership in technology but also enhances Africa’s AI capabilities. The country is positioning itself as a bridge between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, attracting global AI partnerships and investment opportunities. By implementing this forward-thinking strategy, Egypt is taking a major step toward becoming a global AI hub, ensuring sustainable digital transformation that will benefit both its economy and society.
