Dangote refinery layoffs have started, according to a company letter seen by reporters and a union official. The notice said dismissals would take effect by the evening of Sept 25. The company did not say how many jobs are affected or whether output will change.
The refinery recently shut its gasoline unit for repairs expected to last two to three months. It has exported more fuel oil this month, a sign of maintenance or partial outages. Managers have not commented on the repair schedule beyond the letter. Dangote refinery layoffs add uncertainty while the plant runs without its petrol-making unit.
The plant can process 650,000 barrels per day at full capacity. It began crude runs in January 2024. A national oil union official confirmed that some staff had been let go. Reporters were unable to reach the company for further details by press time.
Analysts will watch staffing, unit restarts, and product flows. A longer gasoline outage could shift Nigeria’s import needs and regional fuel trade. Any update to repair timing or workforce numbers will shape expectations for fourth-quarter operations
