South Africa’s Department of Electricity and Energy and Eskom will hold a joint nuclear and clean-energy conference in Irene, Gauteng, on 10–11 November, the department announced on 5 November.
The event at River Meadow Manor combines the department’s Nuclear Conference with Eskom’s fourth Clean Energy Conference. Its announced programme covers investment, regulation, financing, skills and industrial capacity for the country’s electricity system.
The nuclear discussions will include the policy and technology requirements for South Africa’s programme and emerging designs such as small modular reactors. These are smaller reactor units intended to be built in modules.
The clean-energy programme will use the Integrated Resource Plan 2025 as its starting point. Planned topics include lower generation emissions, grid development, regional interconnection, affordability, private investment and electricity-market changes.
The opening programme on Tuesday 10 November is due to start at 08:00, with a media briefing at 10:35. The department’s accreditation deadline for journalists is 10:00 on Monday 9 November; its announcement links the application form.
