Vodacom Tanzania’s group net profit more than doubled to TZS70.4 billion in the three months to 30 September, from TZS33.2 billion a year earlier. Revenue rose 19.8% to TZS562.4 billion, according to its unaudited quarterly results, posted by the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange on 6 November.

Group operating profit rose to TZS133.2 billion from TZS66.8 billion. Revenue growth and a decline in depreciation and amortisation helped lift earnings. Direct expenses rose to TZS167.1 billion, and operating expenses increased to TZS148.3 billion. Finance costs rose to TZS50.7 billion from TZS39.5 billion.

The parent company, excluding subsidiaries, made a net profit of TZS15.8 billion after a TZS9.4 billion loss a year earlier. Its revenue rose to TZS355.3 billion from TZS305.6 billion.

In a separate report covering the six months to 30 September, Vodacom Tanzania said group net profit rose 182.7% to TZS117.8 billion. It attributed the 20.8% increase in half-year service revenue to about TZS1.1 trillion largely to M-Pesa and mobile data. Half-year operating free cash flow rose 64.3% to TZS90.3 billion.
