Athena Core Technologies announced the appointment of Jorge Rodriguez as Chief Executive Officer. The company said Rodriguez brings more than 30 years of telecom and enterprise-platform leadership and will spearhead its vision to build a resilient digital infrastructure across East Africa.
Rodriguez joins at a critical juncture. The announcement noted Athena is rolling out fibre, data-centre and backbone services to support fast-growing enterprise and consumer demand. Therefore, leadership with transformation experience is key to meeting the region’s connectivity gaps.
In his new role, Rodriguez will focus on network deployment, commercial growth and partnerships with governments, enterprise customers and regional carriers. He will report to the board and relocate to East Africa. The company described his track-record in major carriers as a symbol of its ambition.
Why it matters: As East Africa ramps up digital-economy ambitions, robust backbone infrastructure underpins everything from cloud-services and fintech to smart-cities and logistics. A fresh CEO profile could accelerate project delivery and de-risk implementation timelines.
Athena said its strategy includes expanding fibre-optic routes, building new data-centre capacity, and offering service-levels tailored to high-growth sectors. Meanwhile, Rodriguez will oversee cost discipline and governance upgrades to support institutional-grade partnerships.
Investors and industry watchers will watch two things closely: the pace of network roll-out and early commercial wins in enterprise and government segments. If Athena hits milestones, East Africa’s digital-infrastructure narrative could gain further credibility.
