The second version of the eMrejesho system (eMrejesho V2) from Tanzania has been selected to compete for the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Awards.

These awards are presented by WSIS under the coordination of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations agency, with the goal of recognizing and promoting innovative projects that use ICT to contribute to sustainable development globally.

The eMrejesho V2 system has been nominated in the e-Government category (Action Line C7) and is among 360 ICT systems that passed the selection phase from over 1,000 digital project submissions from various countries around the world.

It is worth recalling that the first version of the e-Mrejesho system won the United Nations Public Service Innovation Award in 2024.

Speaking about the awards, the Communications Manager of the e-Government Authority (e-GA), Ms. Subira Kaswaga, stated that e-GA received notification of their participation via email from ITU after e-Mrejesho was selected as a nominee.

She explained that eMrejesho V2 is an improved version of the digital platform that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to collect, analyze, and provide quick feedback to citizens regarding the services they receive from government institutions and public agencies.

“Through this platform, citizens have the opportunity to provide opinions, suggest improvements, or express challenges they encounter when accessing services, and all this is efficiently and swiftly interpreted using AI systems,” said Ms. Subira.

She highlighted that at this stage of the competition, public voting will determine the winner, and she called upon Tanzanians and all stakeholders in ICT development globally to support e-GA’s efforts by voting before April 30 this year.

“This is the time to show our solidarity as a nation and as the African region as a whole. Through your vote, you will enable eMrejesho V2 to win and showcase how our innovation in ICT can demonstrate to the world the capabilities we possess,” emphasized Ms. Subira.

She further noted that the winners of these awards will be announced during the WSIS 2025 Awards Ceremony, which will take place at the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event scheduled to be held in Geneva from July 7 to 11 this year.

Additionally, Ms. Subira emphasized that the WSIS Awards are among the most prestigious international awards in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and being nominated is a great honor for Tanzania.

The e-Mrejesho system was designed by the e-Government Authority (e-GA) and is managed by the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance.
