Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has received the UPU International security certificate after passing a detailed international audit. The Universal Postal Union (UPU) reviewed security systems, infrastructure and daily operations across the national network. The assessment ended on November 7, 2025.

On November 24, 2025, UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki handed over the Grade A (Gold) International Postal Security Certificate (S58 & S59) in Dar es Salaam. During the previous week, UPU security specialists inspected how Posta Tanzania protects mail, parcels and customer data. They tracked items through sorting centres, transport routes and international dispatch points.

The final report shows that Posta Tanzania scored 598 out of 640 points. Therefore, the Corporation met the bar for one of the toughest postal security levels. The result confirms compliance with UPU S58 and S59 standards. These rules cover physical security, staff access controls, secure handling of items and procedures for international exchanges. Consequently, the UPU International security certificateplaces the operator among a select group of designated postal administrations worldwide.

Caroline Kanuti received the certificate on behalf of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, together with S.P. Mathias Kipeta, Head of Internal Affairs. They said the award confirms that ongoing postal reforms are delivering visible results. Moreover, they thanked the UPU for its technical guidance and pledged to keep upgrading security systems. In addition, they stressed that Posta Tanzania will continue aligning operations with evolving global requirements and customer expectations.

Officials added that the UPU International security certificate supports the Corporation’s plan to handle more secure cross-border commerce. E-commerce parcels remain a key growth segment for the business. As a result, stronger security and clearer compliance rules help position the postal operator as a trusted logistics partner for citizens, companies and international postal networks.

UPU security experts also issued several recommendations to guide the next phase of improvements. For example, they advised tighter cargo control and better tracking of mail and parcel movements. They further called for upgrades to Exchange Offices to enhance safety, speed and reliability. Altogether, these proposals form part of a continuous-improvement plan that the UPU applies to all certified postal operators.

With this milestone, Posta Tanzania joins a small group of postal institutions worldwide that meet UPU security norms. Consequently, the certification is expected to boost confidence among foreign postal partners. It should also strengthen customer trust at home and increase the Corporation’s competitiveness in a fast-changing logistics and e-commerce environment.
