British International Investment launched its 2026–31 strategy in Nairobi on 6 November, targeting approximately KSh864.3bn of its own investment across Africa and up to KSh683.7bn in additional private capital, the British High Commission said.
The amounts are continent-wide ambitions, rather than a Kenya-only allocation or money already disbursed. In Kenya, the UK development finance institution plans to back businesses and infrastructure while attracting more institutional investors.
At least 40% of investments are intended for climate finance, including renewable power and electricity networks. The strategy also targets at least 30% of core investments at improving economic opportunities for women.
BII chief executive Leslie Maasdorp said the institution wanted to use its capital and partnerships to attract investment from other providers, including Kenya’s domestic investors.
The High Commission cited BII’s existing support for solar-irrigation company SunCulture and renewable-energy projects at Malindi and Menengai as examples of its Kenyan portfolio.
