A new partnership between Western Union, Chipper Cash, and Zoona Transactions Zambia Limited has made global money transfers easier and more accessible for Zambians. Users of the Chipper Cash app can now send and receive international transfers directly through their phones.

The service allows transactions to over 200 countries and territories, using Western Union’s global network. Zambians can send money for cash pick-up or to mobile wallets and, soon, directly to bank accounts. The move marks a significant milestone in expanding financial inclusion and offering flexible digital tools to meet everyday needs.

Zambia’s population, now over 20 million, is increasingly shifting to mobile-first financial solutions. With smartphone adoption rising, this new feature gives users a modern alternative to traditional bank branches and long queues. It integrates Western Union’s reach with Chipper Cash’s user-friendly platform and Zoona’s local presence.

The process is designed to be simple. Customers can top up their Chipper Cash wallets via digital and physical payment points including banks, ATMs, retailers, and mobile networks. They can then initiate international transfers at their convenience.

According to Western Union, the partnership meets the needs of a digitally aware consumer base, while also supporting cross-border family support and commerce. For many users, especially those living in rural or underserved areas, this represents a vital lifeline to access global financial services.

Zoona’s leadership emphasized that this partnership reflects the rapid evolution of Zambia’s fintech space. Where services once depended on agents and cash-based models, users now expect app-driven, digital options. This partnership represents a leap forward in meeting those expectations.

Chipper Cash and Zoona serve over five million customers across Africa. The inclusion of Western Union’s services into the app aligns with the mission of providing inclusive financial services, no matter the user’s banking status. The initiative marks a new chapter in Zambia’s financial journey.
