IsDB Institute’s 2025 Report Details USD 4.14m in New Technical Assistance Approvals

The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) reported 25 new technical assistance project approvals worth USD 4.14 million in its 2025 Annual Report, released in June 2026. It also reported completing 19 projects valued at USD 3 million during the year.

The figures were presented in a 23 June announcement following the Islamic Development Bank Group’s annual meetings in Baku. They describe the Institute’s activity during 2025, rather than a new October financing allocation or direct loans to individual businesses.

IsDBI’s work includes research, policy advice, training and assistance with Islamic finance systems. The Institute said its interventions since 2013 had reached more than USD 27.57 million across 181 projects benefiting over 34 countries. That cumulative total should be distinguished from the separate approvals and completions recorded for 2025.

The report described three initiatives as ready for pilot work: Awqaf Free Zones, Digital Postal Islamic Financial Services and a Smart Countertrade System. Their intended applications include financial inclusion, food and energy security and resilience in trade. Being ready for a pilot does not establish that a service is already operating widely or has delivered results at commercial scale.

The Institute also reported work on an Islamic finance artificial intelligence assistant and a hackathon involving more than 40 teams. These activities concern the development and testing of tools; the announcement did not provide evidence that every proposed solution had been adopted by financial institutions.

Training was another part of the programme. IsDBI said more than 20 courses reached around 500 professionals, while an entrepreneurship initiative involved emerging leaders from 20 countries. Such support can help institutions and businesses build capabilities, but participant counts alone do not measure changes in access to finance.

For African policymakers and financial institutions, the report points to potential areas for technical cooperation rather than an automatic funding entitlement. The relevant follow-up is which countries and institutions participate, how pilots are evaluated and whether the assistance improves practical services. This article reviews the Institute’s published 2025 activity figures.
