Senegal has recorded nearly CFA1 trillion in financing pledges for its goal of universal electricity access by 2029, the African Development Bank reported on 4 November.

The commitments were announced at a Dakar roundtable on 6 October. Development partners pledged CFA181 billion and private businesses CFA817 billion, the bank said. The figures describe commitments, rather than disbursements or completed connections.

National access was 86.2% at the end of 2024, compared with 69.8% in rural areas. AfDB identified 6,471 localities, home to nearly one million people, still lacking electricity and not covered by an existing project.

The implementation plan includes grid extensions, solar mini-grids and stand-alone systems. Government and partners also agreed to improve least-cost planning, clean cooking, private participation and tracking of projects and commitments over the following twelve months.
