The African Development Bank has signed a $997,000 grant with ACRE Africa for a project targeting agricultural insurance access for 300,000 farmers across 15 Tanzanian regions.

The agreement was signed in Nairobi on 28 October, the bank said on 4 November. Funding comes through its Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility.

ACRE Africa will contribute $437,000 in kind, taking total project financing to about $1.43 million. The counterpart contribution is not an additional cash grant.

The project will develop digital farmer registration, premium collection, monitoring and claims processing. Distribution will use community agents and partnerships with financial institutions, input suppliers and crop buyers.

The farmer count is a target, rather than confirmed insurance coverage. The announcement does not specify premiums, policy terms or a regional rollout timetable.
