Cross Switch, a leading provider of innovative payment solutions, has achieved a significant milestone by securing its Third-Party Payment Processor (TPPP) license, issued by the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) and sponsored by Absa. This new licensing status strengthens the company’s position in South Africa’s growing payments ecosystem, allowing it to independently onboard merchants, fintechs, and charities. This achievement follows closely after the company’s certification as a Visa Payment Facilitator (PayFac), further solidifying its role as a major player in the region.

The TPPP license enables Cross Switch to enhance its service offering by providing businesses with a highly flexible payment platform, which allows them to easily accept local and international payments. Through its adaptable API (CS+), Cross Switch helps businesses scale and grow, making it easier for South African merchants to transact across Africa and key international markets like Latin America. The company’s platform facilitates seamless integration for merchants in South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, and other regions, with plans to expand further into countries like Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Chile.

Mark Chirnside, CEO of Africa at Cross Switch, emphasized that this achievement represents a critical step in expanding the company’s network across the continent. He noted that by providing businesses with access to multiple payment options, Cross Switch is empowering African merchants to reach broader markets and unlock growth opportunities. As part of its expansion efforts, the company has already signed contracts with over 1,000 merchants in South Africa, adding to its growing client base across Africa.

Tim Davis, Group CEO of Cross Switch, stated that investing in South Africa is a strategic priority for the company. With this TPPP license, Cross Switch is poised to meet the growing demand for flexible and scalable payment services in the region. The company’s immediate focus is on accelerating merchant onboarding and ensuring the platform’s ability to scale quickly, offering comprehensive payment solutions backed by robust fraud prevention and risk management systems.

Cross Switch’s flexible payment platform is designed to address the needs of both small and large businesses, supporting them in their growth journey by simplifying payment processes and improving access to local and international markets. This latest licensing achievement marks a significant step forward for Cross Switch as it continues to provide modern, compliant payment solutions that drive financial inclusion and business scalability across Africa and Latin America. The company remains committed to expanding its presence and enhancing its service offerings, positioning itself as a leader in the global payments landscape.
