October 2026 Africa outlooks: IMF report and World Bank AI-readiness update

Reports selected and checked on 27 October 2026.

The IMF’s October 2026 Regional Economic Outlook Update for Sub-Saharan Africa, released on 15 October, projects regional growth of 4.5% in both 2026 and 2027. Its theme, “Resilient Growth, Clouded Outlook”, reflects continued expansion alongside significant risks.

The IMF highlights high interest burdens, limited reserves in many economies, declining aid and constrained capacity to absorb further shocks. Its policy priorities include protecting productive investment, supporting vulnerable households and enabling private-sector growth. Businesses and development institutions should read the regional picture alongside country-specific evidence.
