Afreximbank has announced a specialized training program to equip African businesses with a comprehensive understanding of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. Scheduled in Abuja, Nigeria, from June 30 to July 2, 2025, the program aims to provide practical insights into the AfCFTA’s regulatory and institutional landscape.
The training, developed in collaboration with the American University in Cairo and the AfCFTA Secretariat, targets African corporates involved in import and export activities, trade support institutions, investment promotion agencies, export trading companies, and financial institutions.
Participants will gain knowledge on interpreting key treaty instruments, ensuring compliance with new trade rules, and understanding regional integration mechanisms. The program also includes tailored presentations on Afreximbank’s products supporting AfCFTA implementation, such as the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) and Africa Trade Gateway (ATG).
Dr. Yemi Kale, Afreximbank’s Group Chief Economist, emphasized the importance of understanding the AfCFTA’s provisions to unlock its potential for economic growth. Tsotetsi Makong, Director at the AfCFTA Secretariat, highlighted the training’s role in helping businesses overcome challenges in market rules and compliance requirements.
