The University of Dar es Salaam and the Bank of Tanzania Academy have signed an agreement to expand financial education and joint research, using the central bank’s training facilities in Mwanza.

The memorandum was signed on 29 October in the presence of BoT governor Emmanuel Tutuba, according to a university account published on 3 November. The agreement provides a framework for teaching, research and programme development rather than announcing an immediate public course intake.

UDSM vice-chancellor William Anangisye said the university would contribute academics and specialists in financial education. The Academy’s facilities would help extend their work beyond the university’s main Dar es Salaam campus, including to people in Mwanza.

The partners also intend to review training programmes against labour-market needs. Anangisye said UDSM’s curriculum-development expertise would complement existing provision and address gaps in financial knowledge.

Tutuba said financial education should equip people with practical skills in spending, saving and investing. The university linked the agreement to the central bank’s wider financial-education work, including guidelines for integrating the subject into higher, technical and vocational education launched on 2 October.
